After graduating from St Andrews University with a 2:1 in Mathematics in 2007, Tom joined Citigroup as an accountant for the Equity Derivative traders. Wanting to move closer to the action, he left a year later to join JP Morgan as a middle office desk assistant on their Equities Proprietary trading desk. He held this position until the desk was closed down in February 2009. During this time Tom successfully negotiated CFA level 1 and thus embarked on a search for a role as an equity analyst. Tom was educated in France and speaks French fluently.

Tom joined Montanaro in October 2009.
